THE ART OF

EDWINA

About

Welcome! My goal is to be a light into the process of creativity. In my opinion, creativity is the key to saving our planet....

My paintings are primarily abstract expressionistic. My feelings & thoughts are expressed on canvas. Some are more obvious than others.

Growing up in the 50’s in Houston Texas, I took art lessons at the Houston Art Museum. Fast forward to college at University of Colorado Boulder where I majored in Psychology. After graduation in 1975 (BA & S) I worked in social services & psychology for a few years in Boulder and earned half a Masters in Counseling. But my visual creativity was bursting to get out.

In 1978 I went back to school to get another (Bachelor of Arts) degree in Interior Design. I interned and then was hired by Gensler and Associates to do commercial office design and then Victor Huff Associates in Denver to do hotel design.

In 1986 I moved to LA and for many years I worked at some of the top commercial interiors firms both in interior design and business development. Artistically I was inspired by many fine artists such as Helen Frankenthaler, Ed Moses, & Laddie John Dill to name a few fine artists whose work I was showing to our interior design clients.

In the mid 90’s I went out on my own - Edwina Klein Interior Design- doing very custom residential interiors and furniture design. I was painting in my spare time and found that my design clients loved  my large abstract paintings and several purchased them.

I  began to show my paintings locally in 2005 with FOLA- Foundation of Local Artists in Manhattan Beach and several of my pieces are now in private collections in both Texas and Southern California.

The rich texture of many of my paintings tells a greater story, several paintings show the history of painting beneath. It’s part of my process and I am a believer of trusting the process as inspired by Shawn McNiff’s book (Trust the Process) See blog.

In 2013 I retired from my interior design practice. Since then I practice my art with creative projects, play tennis and volunteer with children & teens now at Indivsible Arts in Hermosa Beach.

Please feel free to  contact me for more information/pricing on my paintings or for a custom painting.

I hope you enjoy my site!
